Shane for Sheriff: Leadership You Can Trust

Experience That Matters in a Rural County

For a rural county like Iron County, voters often care deeply about whether a Sheriff can respond to emergencies, manage limited resources wisely, support deputies in the field, and liaise effectively with outside agencies when needed. Shane’s background reflects all those responsibilities.

Stewardship, Accountability, and Running an Effective Office

In his last assignments, he supervised more than 390 civilian and commissioned employees and more than 150 volunteers, and managed annual budgets exceeding $50,000,000. He led six multi-agency state and federal task forces and displayed a strong record of efficiency and accountability. In his last two years of service, WITHOUT reducing resources, Shane achieved budget reductions of 6.9% & 7.5%, respectively. Time from criminal complaint assignment to investigative conclusion was improved by almost 34%, and solve rates increased by almost 25% under his supervision. At one point, at least two of his units were in the Top Five (5) or better for solve rates in the entire Nation!

For rural voters, this means Shane brings not only frontline law enforcement experience, but also the ability to responsibly manage taxpayer dollars, improve operations, and ensure the Sheriff’s Office runs effectively without wasting resources.

Investigations, Crime Prevention, and Specialized Expertise

Shane supported Air Support (helicopters) and Search and Rescue operations, and served as Incident Commander on countless large-scale emergency incidents and high-profile, high-capacity preplanned events, including Homeland Security SEAR I events.

These included incidents in which he served as Incident Commander for more than 1,000 public

safety and medical personnel at the local, state, and federal levels.

He also:

 Commanded activities out of the Department Operations Command Center for over three

dozen large-scale, high-risk, and volatile unplanned events, leading operations across an

entire county of more than 8,000 square miles

 Provided field-level command and control of hundreds of personnel during dozens of

riots, large-scale civil disturbances, and mass protests

 Co-commanded emergency tactical field operations for Level-III (Advanced) SWAT

operations throughout Clark County

 Oversaw hostage rescues, tactical self-harm rescues, and armed barricades without a

single use of deadly force or loss of life in his field commands Shane also founded the state’s first multi-agency Digital Financial Crimes Task Force, led Crime Stoppers of Southern Nevada, and served as an executive member of the Organized Retail

Crimes Association of Southern Nevada.

During his law enforcement career and for two years following it, Shane conducted more than 300 threat, risk, and vulnerability assessments and developed mitigation plans for professional sports leagues, franchises, schools, churches, entertainment venues, private businesses, governments, critical infrastructure, and high-risk individuals and politicians.

This work included programs designed to detect and reduce human threats, strengthen infrastructure, enhance capabilities, and prepare organizations to prevent and respond efficiently to pre-planned violent attacks across the public and private sectors. He has worked with seven of the top ten professional sports leagues in North America, the largest professional sports league in Europe, and the two largest entertainment organizations in the world.

That combination of command presence, emergency management experience, and measured decision-making speaks directly to the type of leadership rural communities typically want in a Sheriff.

Shane provided Training, Education & Preparation to Trainees as a Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) certified instructor and/or acted as a subject matter expert, with Thousands (1,000's) of hours of instruction in specialized areas, including, but not limited to:

 Designing, proctoring, and/or leading dozens of multi-organizational Tabletop Exercises

(TTX) and Functional Exercises (FE) for large-scale preplanned community events

 Working collaboratively with both public and private-sector partners across all industries

and business sectors

 Previous credentials and specialized clearances through the Department of Defense

(DOD), Department of Justice (DOJ), Homeland Security Investigations (HSI), the

United States Secret Service (USSS), and INTERPOL

In a rural county where training, readiness, and interoperability matter, this kind of experience demonstrates a Sheriff who understands how to prepare people before a crisis.

Courtroom, Public Communication, and Community Leadership

Shane has testified before State Legislative Committees, County Commissions, City Councils, Regulatory Oversight Boards, and Community Outreach Groups. He also conducted hundreds of formal video and/or audio-recorded media interviews at the local, state, and national levels, and has logged hundreds of hours of court testimony at the state and federal levels.

This shows a leader who can communicate clearly, work with elected officials and the public, and represent a Sheriff’s Office with professionalism and credibility.

Emergency Medical and Community Service Background

Shane is also a former Emergency Medical Technician - Intermediate (EMT-I), bringing an additional layer of emergency response experience that is especially meaningful in rural areas, where law enforcement frequently works closely with fire, EMS, dispatch, search and rescue, and volunteer responders.

His service goes beyond law enforcement. He was also co-founder and prior Executive Director of a 501(c)(3) nonprofit that raised money for young men and women aspiring to become future first responders in law enforcement, fire, and emergency medicine.
