STRENGTHEN the CAPABILITIES, EFFECTIVENESS, and EFFICIENCY of the
services we can provide.
- Improve the training, structure, capacity and potential of our Criminal Investigative capabilities.
- Reevaluate written policies, processes and procedures in all aspects of what we do.
- Take advantage of grants, private sector assistance, and cross-institutional training and certification opportunities.
- Strengthen our ability to not only train and work with our law enforcement partners in Iron County, but also cross-functionally collaborate with other government departments, charitable organizations and private businesses, in ensuring the safety of our community.
- Always be as innovative & forward-thinking as possible, challenge processes and be willing to try new ideas in ensuring public safety.
- Ensure the foundation of organizational success is built on a written vision of being the safest County in the Nation and embodied in core values such as Excellence, Accountability, Courage, Respect and Integrity.
- Lead by Example, with a clear vision, unrelenting resilience, wholehearted empathy and unquestionable decisiveness.
- Guarantee that all employees have the training, resources, opportunity and ability to perform their jobs as safely and professionally as possible.
- Foster greater input from ALL employees and create a culture of openness.
- Focus on the PEOPLE (employees and volunteers) with a cornerstone of empowerment, calculated risk-taking, continuous professional growth and training for formal leadership.
- Make recruiting and retaining the best employees a top agency priority.
- Geographical ownership where the residents, business owners and our ranchers/farmers know the deputies who serve their area(s) and vice versa. The uniformed deputies will be heavily involved in proactive crime prevention strategies and collaboration in the areas they are responsible for. Executive leadership will also always be readily available to the public.
- Unless it directly impedes our ability to safely perform our responsibilities or is restricted by law, ICSO will be as transparent as possible, to include a breakdown of the ICSO budget, up-to-date Organizational Charts, crime & enforcement statistics, use of force data, etc, and be readily accessible online.
- Promoting National Night Out and expanding to regular (quarterly or monthly) meet-and-greets with the public in various areas of the County, where ICSO leadership, employees, and citizens can interact, questions can be asked and answered, information shared, safety tips provided and the public’s voice be heard.
- Partnering with a cross-section of community leaders across areas such as faith-based, education, medicine, business, agriculture, tribal, etc., in an effort to establish a volunteer group that regularly collaborates with ICSO. This would be to educate community leaders on what, how and why we do what we do, and to ensure transparency in strategic planning, internal investigations, promotional processes, use of force investigations, community needs and more.
- As the Sheriff, I will not just listen to the public, but HEAR both what they want and what they don’t want. If something appears absolutely necessary for ICSO to operate, but still unwanted by the public and/or Iron County voters, then it is my responsibility to clearly articulate the necessity better, and be aggressive in absolute transparency.
- It is also my responsibility to collaborate with the community for additional options, contingency plans and cost-effective alternatives, and under no circumstances, support or endorse tax increases NOT validated by the voters.
- Though State Laws and County Ordinances legally legitimize the authority of police and sheriffs, true legitimacy comes from the communities they serve. Without the unwavering trust, consent and cooperation of the public, policing is not possible as there is no legitimacy.
- Operational EXCELLENCE must be at the foundation in everything we, as a Sheriff’s Office do. With true excellence, all other values are achieved and anything is possible.
- Never accept mediocrity, never tolerate apathy and always do what we SHOULD do and not just what we can do.
- Continuously ADVOCATE for the underserved and disadvantaged within our community.
- Foster and generate COLLABORATIVE PARTNERSHIPS with other agencies, community leaders and the public to safeguard the lives, rights and properties of the residents of Iron County, Utah.
- Uphold CONSTITUTIONAL INTEGRITY and fairness by defending the National & State Constitutions while enforcing laws fairly and without bias.
- Hold ourselves to a higher standard of compassionate public service where trust is earned by leading with RESPECT OVER FEAR and delivering unfaltering accountability and transparency.

A LIFETIME OF
SERVICE
Shane Womack comes from a long line of public servants. His father retired after 33 years of service as a Sergeant with LVMPD. His mother spent over a decade as a Sheriff’s dispatcher. Dozens of Shane’s uncles and cousins were, or are, active firefighters. Shane Womack is a friend, a son, a brother, a husband to Amber for 22 years, and a father to two amazing young men and one wonderful daughter.
A Career Built on Service, Leadership, and Public Safety
Shane spent almost 28 years with the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department, a merged city-and-county agency commanded by a Sheriff. He first worked in the Clark County Detention Center as a civilian employee, then served as a Police Officer, Sergeant, Lieutenant, Captain, and retired as a Bureau Commander in 2023. From a young police officer forward, Shane worked and led uniformed patrol in some of the most violent and challenging areas of Clark County. He also served as a bicycle officer on the Las Vegas Strip and completed, led, facilitated, and directed nearly every kind of criminal investigation imaginable.
He was the lead investigator on over 250 suspicious death and homicide investigations, operated as an undercover detective, and led uniformed, clandestine, operational, and investigative units ranging from 7 personnel to over 300.
His duties included work in:
- Vice/Narcotics
- Robbery/Homicide
- Homeland Security
- Emergency Management
- Public Corruption
- Public safety responsibilities at McCarran International Airport
- And numerous other major law enforcement and public safety operations
